Small group tutoring sessions

Qualified and experienced tutors can be hard to find, so with this in mind we have also introduced small group tutoring sessions in half termly blocks. All sessions are run by qualified and experienced teachers. These sessions are ideal to consolidate the work done in school and also provide enrichment for the very able and consolidation for students that need additional support. The sessions are more affordable, but within a small enough group to allow individual attention. Students are grouped into similar ability groups to help them make progress at the right level for them.

We run sessions in the following:

Key Stage 2 – Maths and English

11+ Entrance Exams

Key Stage 3 – Maths and English

Types of revision course

For GCSE and A level there are several types of course on offer. All are exam board specific, so when you register your interest we will ask some basic details about the course and board followed. We will liaise with students and parents to gain a picture of current student performance and we will request some samples of student work so that the session is targeted and focused on the immediate needs of the student. After the session students will have access to the members area where resources from the session and links to other additional resources can be found.

  • Courses are broken down into exam paper/ topics and are booked individually. Therefore, your child can pick specific units or pick all components for more detailed coverage. Eg Edexcel History has 3 exam papers, therefore there are 3 separate revision sessions. These sessions can be very useful to build up the depth of knowledge and skill specific to individual exam papers. Students are given material that they will be able to use at home- this can be useful if your child is finding it hard to know how to make a start with revision. Each paper has a 3 hour revision session.
  • 3 hour course that covers all exam components and assessment objectives – this is most useful just before the exam. In the session exam questions, planning answers and sample responses are the format. Less Knowledge is covered. You select one session per subject.

Each session will

  • Be targeted at individual needs
  • Enable students to work independently after the session. Students will bring home material to further consolidate their learning.

The Revision Room

We also staff a revision room for up to 10 students at a time. Students bring their own revision materials and leave their gadgets at home! Although this is independent study in some respects, it is structured to have some taught time on revision strategy which students then apply in the session. Timings are given for revision tasks and review is built in. There are also copies of core revision materials for students to use in the session.

The session is ideal if you are unsure how much revision actually happens at home, or if your child struggles with unstructured revision or finds it hard staying focused while in the home environment. The sessions are available per hour at the weekend and the school holiday. The room is available from 9am – 3pm and we charge £10 per hour.
